National Diploma in Nautical Science

The Department of Nautical Science was established at the inception of the Charkin Maritime Academy as one of the pioneer Departments.  It provides academic and professional education and training and a strong foundation for young Nigerian school leavers, to enable them build a career at sea as Deck Officers and finally become ship masters.  The programme offered in the Department is National Diploma in Nautical Science.  To this end, it makes use of various marine simulators, Laboratories and Workshops, including the following:

  • Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS)
  • Electronic Chart and Information System (ECDIS) Simulator
  • Global Distress and Safety System Simulator (GMDSS)
  • Dynamic Positioning (DP) Simulator,
  • Seamanship workshop, and
  • Meteorology and Navigational Aids Laboratory, to name but a few.

ADMISSION PROCESS AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for admission into the Charkin Maritime Academy, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

Applicant must possess the senior secondary school examination certificate or its equivalent with credit passes in at least five (5) subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics. Physics and any other two subjects from Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science and Technical Drawing obtained in not more than two sittings.

Additional Requirements

Other requirements for admission into all the National Diploma programmes include the following:

  1. Applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 22 years
  2. Must have taken the current JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and met the Academy’s cut – off requirements for the year in question.
  3. Success in post UTME screening.
  4. Success in Academy’s physical and medical fitness tests
